No plastics, perfumes, dyes or synthetic superabsorbents

Most conventional pads you see in the market today contain plastics, artificial fragrances, dyes, synthetic superabsorbent polymers, and many other chemicals that may be harmful to your health, especially your reproductive wellbeing - extremely permeable membranes of the vagina can allow the direct transfer of these harmful pad toxins straight into your circulatory system. Since these pads remain in close contact with your vaginal tissues for long durations, they can invariably cause rashes, irritations, and infections.

Unlike conventional pads that are mostly filled with petrochemical-based ingredients that you can't even begin to digest, Sparkle pads do not contain plastics, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), sodium polyacrylate, artificial fragrances, deodorants, dyes, chlorine bleach, latex, parabens, formaldehyde, dioxins or chloroform.

With a feather-soft top layer made with bamboo fibre cellulose, a superabsorbent core made with cellulose fibre, and a leak-proof bottom layer made with plant starch, Sparkle pads feel as gentle as they behave when in contact with your skin.

No plastic

Conventional sanitary pads contain plastic and petrochemical by-products throughout every layer. The top sheet is made from polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE), middle layers made with sodium polyacrylate, and back films made from polyethylene (PE).

The problem with plastic is that it’s not breathable which can create sweaty and humid environment near your most intimate areas. In fact, perforated polyethylene (PE), also known as the “Dry Net”, makes the conventional pad last longer so you may not feel the need to change your pad as frequently as you should.

No harsh chemicals

You can’t think of a conventional pad without your mind immediately going to the synthetic perfume it emanates when it's opened. In addition to these brands subliminally signalling to you that you need to disguise the fact that it’s your period time (which is, after all, a natural process), these artificial fragrances can make your sensitive skin feel itchy and uncomfortable.

We think that vaginas should be allowed to smell exactly the way they are, so Sparkle pads do not contain any artificial fragrances because we feel it is unnecessary to expose your skin to chemicals.

No synthetic superabsorbents

Although you may feel like your monthly bleeding resembles the Niagara Falls down there, you might be surprised to know that an average menstruator typically loses only around 30-60 ml of blood (about 2-4 tablespoons) over a period cycle of 4-5 days.

The absorbent core of conventional sanitary pads contains superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) which can absorb an enormous amount of fluid. Traditional SAPs are made from sodium polyacrylate polymers which are derived from petrochemical by-products - if you use pads filled with a lot of SAPs with unnecessarily high-absorbency capacities, they may dry out your skin by wicking moisture from it, causing irritation.
